Director | Cinematographer | Screenwriter
Simon Guy Fässler earned his diploma in Visual Communication at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg with the documentary "Onkel Albin". During his studies, he was mentored by Wim Wenders, Fatih Akin, Gerd Roscher and Rüdiger Neumann. Long drawn to photography, he found his ideal medium in cinematography – a field uniting creativity, technical precision and teamwork.
Back in Zurich, he became father to Ilaria and Vincent and began building his career in the Swiss film industry, initially working in advertising, corporate, and documentary films. In 2017, he won the Swiss Film Award for his cinematography on "Aloys" by Tobias Nölle. Since then, he has shot feature films internationally while continuing to pursue his passion for documentaries, collaborating with directors such as Tobias Nölle, Francesco Rizzi, Nicola Bellucci, Dominique Margot, Lars Becker, Christine Repond, Fabio Pellegrinelli, Sergio Castro San Martín, Christian Labhart, Daniel Kemény, Andrea Pellerani and others.
Projects around the world have taught him that powerful images emerge where planning, intuition and human trust intersect. His openness to the unknown has helped him navigate different cultures and quickly build trust with teams and protagonists.
Alongside his cinematography, he also realises his own film projects. In 2023, he completed Ruäch – Journey into Yenish Europe, which he co-directed and co-produced. He has also collaborated with artists including Jürg Egli, Goran Galic, Gian-Reto Gredig, Pascal Häusermann, MARCK, Roland Roos and Lena Maria Thüring.
Simon Guy Fässler is a member of the Swiss Cinematographers Society and the Swiss and European Film Academy.
